HOCKEY: OLDHAM firsts suffered mixed fortunes in the Greater Manchester Women’s Hockey League.
They enhanced their division one title prospects with an 8-0 win over Bolton, but were beaten 1-0 by Urmston in the last four of the All Divisions Cup 24 hours later.
Louise Howard scored four times against Bolton, Karen Rowley bagged a hat-trick and Rebecca Blair got the other.
Oldham were unable to make it a weekend win double as they failed to break down Urmston.
A goal behind at half-time, they came close to equalising when Gill Telow’s shot was cleared off the line.
Oldham’s second string were also in action in division one, but their hopes of avoiding relegation suffered a setback as they lost 4-1 to Urmston. Laura Rice scored the consolation goal.
The club’s third team, aiming to avoid the drop from division three, were beaten 2-0 by Rochdale.
