AMATEUR FOOTBALL: CHADDERTONIANS maintained their title push in the Lancashire Amateur League premier division with a tense 2-1 win over local rivals Failsworth Dynamos.

Behind at the break, Chadds’ task was made all the more difficult when Antony Simmons was sent off.

But, with Antony Corlett and Rick Massey controlling the midfield, they started to pose a threat and Steve Barrow equalised from the penalty spot after Dave Ashworth was brought down.

And it was Ashworth who bagged the winner late on for the home side with an excellent solo effort.

Chadds are five points adrift of Howe Bridge Mills with two games in hand.

The club’s reserve side were beaten 3-1 by Hesketh Casuals in division two — Paul Kearns scored the consolation goal — but the ‘A’ team remain in second place in division four after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Hesketh Casuals reserves. Jordan Scholes was on the mark.
