Victory for ten-man Mossley

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY, who played for almost 60 minutes with 10 men after defender Graham Kay was sent off, defeated lowly Ossett Albion 2-1 to record a fifth straight win in UniBond League division one north.
It was Kay who stooped low to the head the Lilywhites in front after six minutes at Seel Park, and they were handed a perfect opportunity to double their advantage when Lee Blackshaw was hauled to the floor, but Steven Moore’s penalty was easily saved by Ben Saynor.
Mossley’s goal hero turned villain when Kay was shown a straight red card for retaliation, but the hosts still held the upper hand — Michael Fish and Chris McDonagh went close — until Ossett equalised out of nowhere through Andrew Brownrigg in the 57th minute.
The leveller spurred John Flanagan’s side and they were back in front 10 minutes later when Steve Settle’s cross was converted by Blackshaw for his fourth goal in five games.
OLDHAM Boro’s six-match unbeaten run in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League came to an abrupt halt when they went down 3-1 at home to Daisy Hill.
To rub salt into the wounds, manager Tony Mills lost three players to injury — two of whom had to be replaced after they collided just before half-time.
Boro were already two goals down — Daniel Gregory and John Buckle scored for Daisy Hill — when midfield pair Will Buckley and Duncan Philbin smashed into each other. Buckley lost both of his front teeth, while Philbin went to hospital, where he had stitches on the bridge of his nose.
Nick Alexander was also substituted at the break after suffering an ankle injury, but not before Ryan Baldwin had pulled a goal back after good work from Sean Roscoe and Matty Hampson.
Boro were poor, however, and they created little in the second half as Daisy Hill wrapped up victory with a late goal from Damian Clynes.
CHADDERTON are in good heart for tonight’s NWCL division one game away to Atherton Collieries.
Although Paul Buckley’s side had to settle for a 1-1 draw against AFC Liverpool on Saturday, they created enough chances to win two matches.
Behind to Andrew McCoy’s sixth-minute effort, Chadderton didn’t let their heads drop and Sean Nolan soon equalised from a Liam Radcliffe cross.
The home side continued to press, James Curley striking a post and wasting a one-on-one opportunity, as did Leon Walters.
Chadderton dominated the second half, with Andrew Pheby and Nolan hitting the woodwork from long-range, while Pheby was denied by another excellent save from the Liverpool ’keeper.
Leon Melia, who had to sit out Saturday’s draw with tonsillitis, and Radcliffe (ankle) are struggling to be fit for tonight’s clash.
