NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: ANDY PHEBY set Chadderton on their way to a sixth win of the season in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League last night.
The midfielder scored after 18 minutes in a 3–1 defeat of Atherton Collieries.
The home side wasted a great opportunity to drew level when they were awarded a penalty — Ben Greenidge was punished for hand ball — but ’keeper Lee Swanson made a fine save.
Chadderton were mostly on top and James Curley doubled their advantage just before the hour mark — he converted an Adam Edwards cross at the far post — with Leon Walters adding a third after 65 minutes.
The forward struck with a back-heel volley, with again Edwards providing the centre.
Atherton did manage to pull a goal back when a shot went in off the unfortunate Mark Edgerton with four minutes to go, but it couldn’t detract from a fine Chadderton performance.
OLDHAM Boro are waiting on the fitness of several players for tomorrow’s NWCL division one tussle away to Cheadle Town (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Whitebank Stadium outfit are on a recovery mission after losing 3-1 to Daisy Hill at the weekend, their first defeat in seven games.
But manager Tony Mills could be down to the bare bones for trip to second-bottom Cheadle.
Nick Murphy, Nick Alexander, Will Buckley and Duncan Philbin are struggling to injury, while Arnold Nsimbe is working.
Mills said: “We were poor from start to finish against Daisy Hill.
“It was a great chance to extend our unbeaten run, but we didn’t play at all.
“We’ve done really well recently and I didn’t see the performance coming. It was a step backwards.”
MAD march continues for Mossley tonight when they visit Trafford in UniBond League division one north (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Lilywhites play nine games in the month as they look to catch up after a clutch of postponements either side of Christmas and New Year.
Mossley are on a roll at the moment, with five straight wins.
The latest victory, a 2-1 defeat of Ossett Albion at Seel Park, lifted John Flanagan’s in-form side to 11th in the table.
