Deaf closing in on title repeat

SNOOKER: LAST season’s champions Deaf B have hit the top of the Oldham Amateur Snooker League thanks to a 5-1 victory at home to Springbank A, M.J. Smith taking the last frame with a break of 30.

Nimble Nook remain the team to catch at the top of the card league with Stanley Road their only real rivals just two points behind them.

Academy beaten



SAJID ZAMURD, the highest-ranked player in the competition, lost a last-frame decider as Oldham Snooker Academy were beaten 5-2 by Riley’s Belle Vue ‘B’



But Oldham, who also lost the aggregate despite wins for Ian Atherton (51) and Mick Smith, still hold a 16-point advantage in the title race.

The ‘B’ team recorded an impressive 6-1 win at Reddish Cons ‘C’, thanks to Kamran Saeed, Nadeem Hussain, Naveed Mohammed and Nasser Khan.

Oldham’s second string lead by 17 points after Reddish Cons ‘B’, who were in action on the next table, were beaten 5-2 by Riley’s Chorlton.
