WERNETH golf club lost 4-1 in the second round of the Mail on Sunday National Classic with Lee Rowbotham (2&1) their only success as three of the four losers were beaten at the 17th green in close matches.
Oldham’s four-man Stableford for the Captain’s Drive-in (best two to count) was won by Ian Radcliffe, Lee Newsome, Terry Kelly and Stuart Wagstaffe with 90 points.
They triumphed, on the card, from Alan Squires, Steve Rae, Dave Bruce and Eric Charles.
CROMPTON and Royton’s Dunham Forest team whitewashed Castle Hawk 7-0.
Successful were Jordan Flint (5&3), Andy Allen (2&1), David Norbury (6&5), Gary Melling ( one up), Mark Barrett (second extra hole) and Jack Bottomley-Clift (5&3). Professional Martin Beaty was handed a walkover.
Meanwhile, Mick Gazey, Bottomley-Clift, junior captain Jordan Abbott and John Haigh won a team waltz with 93 points.
The runners-up were Mark Barrett, Stephen Barrett, Brent Cannings and David Brooks on 92 points, followed by Tom O’Brien, Ian Heggie, Steve Ashurst and Roy Hornybrook on 90 points.
