BOWLS:
NORTH Chadderton have won the Ben Shaws Team Knock-out Trophy on Chadderton Cot’s artificial surface.
The Winter League ‘B’ Division outfit upset the odds by defeating ‘A’ Division opponents Royle in Sunday’s final.
North Chadderton made the most of the 30 start they received, clinching a convincing 26-points victory with wins by L Schofield, D Mountford, J Mountford and J Rudkin.
Royle (10) 148, North Chadderton (40) 174: T Hedderman 15 L Schofield 21, E Davies 8 D Mountford 21, M Gillies 21 K Luckett 19, D Murray 20 J Mountford 21, M Clough 21 G Flint 10, A Rushton 21 P McDermott 5, N Brooks 11 J Rudkin 21, P Fielding 21 C Brooks 16.
A hectic final day’s bowling at the Cot ended with Andrew Cairns (New Street) winning the Wild’s Of Oldham Individual Handicap.
Cairns denied North Chadderton’s Darren Mountford - who had won his team knock-out final match against Errol Davies - a notable double.
Despite receiving three start from Cairns, he was beaten 21-9 but at least he had the consolation of a fine end to the season.
The losing semi-finalists were Jimmy Hynes (Springbank) and Steve Blaymire (Prestwich).
