Ellis helps Grotton A to place in final

TABLE TENNIS:
THE Oldham Table Tennis League Division 1 Handicap Cup Final will be contested by Grotton A and Werneth B.
Grotton beat Werneth C by 34 points, with Shaun Ellis pulling back 72 of the 75 points handicap deficit himself. With Philip Schofield also gaining 52 points their win was all but assured.
Good performances by Rob Carter (28) and Eddie Darlington (24) helped Werneth B to overcome BAE B by 41 points with Mick Hill gaining 29 for BAE B to keep the score the close.
In Division 2, the Hollinwood C team of Nathan Buckley (25), Mohammed Sajid (7) and Matty Evans (5), conceding 29 points, beat Werneth D by 23. Mike Pellowe starred for Werneth, gaining 31 points to bring them just eight behind with the doubles to play.
Coldhurst A beat Hyde YMCA B by 22 points.
Both finalists of the Division 3 Cup went through by default. Owls A will meet St Saviour’s A.
The junior team from Counthill (Tom Farrell, Adam Newton, and Tom Farkas), armed with a 134 point start all played well and hung on to win by 23 points against Werneth F in the Division 4 competition. Colin Pellowe (53) and Ashley Murray (63) played well for Werneth but the handicap was just too much on the day.
Counthill will now meet Werneth E in the final after their 48 points win against Honeywell F in the other semi-final. All Werneth’s players gained points - Phil Coombe (47), Joe Taylor (17) and Dave Holme (14).

Division 2: Unison A 2, Coldhurst A 8; Hollinwood D 6, Hyde YMCA B 4; Honeywell D 5, Hollinwood E 5.
Division 3: Coldhurst D 0, Unison C 10.
Division 4: Our Lady’s C 2, Honeywell F 8; Owls B 8, Our Lady’s A 2; Counthill 2, Our Lady’s C 8.
