Mossley’s play-off hopes dented

MOSSLEY’S outside hopes of reaching the end-of-the season play-offs suffered a setback when they went down 3-2 at Chorley in UniBond League division one north last night.

The Lilywhites’ red-hot run of form had lifted them to ninth in the table, but they had to settle for second-best here.

Andy Watson put Mossley ahead in the 10th minute, but the hosts were level just before the half-hour mark thanks to Lee Shillito.

All-square up until the 82nd minute, it was Chorley who nosed ahead through Daniel Lloyd-McGoldrick, before Chris Amali extended their lead in stoppage time.

Matty Kay reduced the deficit moments later, but it was too little too late to prevent a first loss in nine games for John Flanagan’s side.

OLDHAM Boro had a fruitless trip to Irlam in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League last night.

The Whitebank Stadium side, who had lost only one of the previous nine matches, were beaten 3-1.

Goals either side of half-time from Chris Palmer (45 minutes, penalty) and Dean Tyman (51) put Boro on the back foot.

They were handed a lifeline when Tom Hughes (56) pulled a goal back, but Matt Williams sealed Boro’s fate with six minutes to go.
