Adam Howard on his way to victory.
ATHLETICS: OLDHAM and Royton Harriers’ Adam Howard will look to enhance his reputation at the Schools International Cross-Country meeting in Cornwall.
Adam had a superb run in the English Schools Cross-Country Championships at Heaton Park, Manchester.
Running in the under-15 boys race, he lead from start to finish to win in 12 minutes 17 seconds - a good 50 metres ahead of his nearest rival.
This had been one of Adam’s major targets of the winter and he now travels to Truro full of confidence.
His Oldham and Royton team-mate Matthew Shaughnessy also had a good run in 120th place in 13:45 and, in the under-17s race, Jane Augsburger did well in 113th place in 18:10.
On the roads, Darren Mannings had an excellent run in the very hilly Spenborough 20-mile road race, finishing in 2:43:24 to keep his training for next month’s London marathon on track.
