AMATEUR FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE are scoring goals for fun in division four of the Huddersfield and District League.

The promotion hopefuls swept aside Cartworth Moor 14-3, seven days after putting 15 past FC Railway.

The match got off to a breakneck start with five goals in the first 20 minutes.

Heyside led 3-2 at that stage, but they were firmly in command by half-time after adding three more to their tally.

And it was one-way traffic in the second period as the local outfit scored at will.

Michael McCabe and Nick Campbell did the damage — they each scored five goals — with James Taylor (two), Ryan Barnes and Jordan Smithies also getting their names on the scoresheet.

In division one, Uppermill and Diggle were frustrated by the weather.

Uppermill’s fixture at home to Heywood Irish Centre did get under way, but conditions gradually deterioated and the referee abandoned the game after 20 minutes.

Diggle were left kicking their heels after their game against Britannia Sports was called off.
Meanwhile, Diggle and Uppermill are on a collision course in the FA Junior Cup.

The competition, which is for reserve, ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams, is building up to an exciting conclusion, and the near neighbours could end up meeting in the final.

Diggle booked their last-four berth with an impressive 6-1 win at Shepley reserves, and Uppermill were equally impressive as they despatched Netherton ‘B’ 7-2.

Scott Thistleton weighed in with a hat-trick for ’Mill and Ben Gooch got two. Byron Coleman and Mark Winterbottom made up the tally.

The semi-finals pit Diggle against Newsome WMC reserves or Lepton Highlanders reserves in the semi-finals, while Uppermill are away to Britannia Sports reserves.
