RUGBY UNION:

ANDY Gorey scored 16 points and provided two try assists as Oldham RU first XI enjoyed a fine 26-15 win at Burnley in North Lancs/Cumbria Division.

Moved to full-back in a series of Oldham changes caused by missing personnel, Gorey responded in style, kicking three penalties, and scoring a try and conversion.

Oldham’s other tries came from Owen Davies and Charlie Roscoe, while centres Rob Froggatt and Steve Molloy shone and Scott Danby, playing his first game at scrum-half, provided influential skipper Gareth Barber with good ball.

The forwards were also in fine form, while Jack Taylor shone at the line-out and Chris Pickles was outstanding at number eight.

However, man-of-the-match was Adam Waterworth, who starred alongside Alan Pierre in the second row.

This victory enabled Oldham to close the gap on Aldwinians and Fleetwood, whom the Manor Park men have still to play at home.

Oldham are away to Upper Eden on Saturday.

STEVE Connolly scored two tries as Oldham 2nd XV defeated Burnage 3rd XV 24-10.

In a hard-fought contest, Oldham’s other tries came from Heap, Jason Green and colt Troy Connor. Collinge kicked two goals.

Oldham’s man-of-the-match was Nick Hackman, whose sterling work in the line-outs was the highlight of a fine all-round display.

OLDHAM 3rd XV saw their game against Aldwinians thirds called off because of pitch problems, but the vets/fourth team were in action against an Aldwinians 4th XV they face next weekend in a cup quarter-final.

A 13-3 win for Aldwinians was rough justice on Oldham, whose forwards did well in the scrums and backs tackled tenaciously.

However, a lack of creativity was their undoing and it was Aldwinians who scored the game’s two tries after recycling the ball effectively.

Oldham’s only points came following a successful penalty-kick by Danny Simpson.

A PLACE in the final of the Under-14s Lancashire Bowl is Oldham’s prize following their 26-10 defeat of Trafford MV.

Daniel Greenwood, Thad Kenny, Ryan Pickles and Tom Hitchen were their try-scorers, while Ellis Catherall landed three conversions.
