AMATEUR FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE hit Hade Edge for six in division four of the Huddersfield and District League.

The promotion hopefuls, who went in front through James Taylor after 10 minutes, recorded an emphatic 6-2 win.

Hade Edge drew level after Heyside failed to clear a corner, but the local outfit were back in front after the restart thanks to Carl Winstanley, who scored twice in quick succession.

The visitors reduced the arrears, but three goals in the last 20 minutes from Nick Campbell, Leon Perry and James Leonard sealed victory.

Meanwhile, Uppermill produced a below-par display in a 2-0 defeat at mid-table Britannia Sports, and they will be hoping for an improved performance at second-bottom Moldgreen tomorrow.

Diggle, who are away to Meltham Athletic this weekend, are also looking for a change of fortune after they lost 2-0 to lowly Heywood Irish Centre.

But the club’s fourth string defeated Heywood Irish Centre 7-1 to maintain their bid for title glory in reserve division one.

They are fourth in the table, just two points adrift of Berry Brow but with six games in hand.

Uppermill’s second string lost 4-1 at Netherton. Ben Gooch scored the consolation goal.

Diggle ‘A’ swept aside New Mill 94 8-0 to maintain their assault on top honours in reserve division two.

They are only a point adrift of Honley, but have played 15 matches to their rivals’ 19 and are also well clear of Westend in third place.

Uppermill ‘A’ were left kicking their heels after their fixture at Upperthong was postponed.

In division one of the Works League, goals from Kieren Fahay and Gaz Lees clinched a 2-1 win for Uppermill’s third against Moldgreen, but the fifths were beaten 1-0 by Coach and Horses in division five.

Rothwell goal seals victory

MIKE Rothwell scored only his second goal in 10 years as Harlequin put their poor Rochdale On-line Alliance form aside to reach the semi finals of the AW Trippier Cup with a 5-2 win over Roca Juniors at New Barn playing fields.

A superb Michael Pearce free-kick set the home side on the way, but Roca equalised just after half time.

Quins were soon back in front with a towering header from Dave Midgley. Dave Bates poked home a third, substitute Simon Butler made it four before Rothwell sealed victory with number five.

HAYLEY Hardy hit a hat-trick as Ashton United defeated Delta Colts 5-2 in the Cheshire and Manchester Women’s County League.

Aimee Smith and Rachel Cummins got the other goals.
