Derby rivals in high spirits

NON-LEAGUE FOTBALL: BROADWAY takes centre stage on Bank Holiday Monday as Chadderton play host to Oldham Boro in a Vodkat North-West Counties League division one derby clash (kick-off 3pm).

The home side are in buoyant mood after defeating title-hopefuls Stone Dominoes. Dave Glynn was sent off in the second half when the score was 1-1, but Paul Buckley’s men dug deep and a late goal from John Rogers sealed an impressive 2-1 win.

Glynn’s one-match ban won’t kick in until a couple of weeks’ time, while Gaz Morris and Leon Melia are also available for Chadderton, who warm up for the local test with a trip to third-placed Leek CSOB tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a broken-down bus and a waterlogged pitch scuppered Boro’s last two league fixtures at Holker Old Boys and at home Irlam respectively.

Boro are missing Tom Hughes (suspended), but hope to welcome back Nick Murphy from a calf injury.

Manager Tony Mills wants his side to draw from the inspiration of their comeback when the rivals met at the Whitebank Stadium earlier in the season.

Mills said: “We were 2-0 down at the break, but came back to draw 2-2 and could have won it. So hopefully we can carry on where we left off.”

MOSSLEY, who were at home to AFC Fylde today in UniBond League division one north, make the short hop to Curzon Ashton on Bank Holiday Monday.
