ATHLETICS: OLDHAM and Royton Harriers were in fine form in their first track meeting of the season, the Trafford Open Medal Meeting at Longford Park.
Adam Howard translated his good form in cross-country on to the track to win the 1500m in an excellent 4:23.4.
He was followed by Jack Crabtree in second in 4:31.9 and Matthew Shaughnessy fifth in 4:45.4.
Matthew also had a great run in the 800m to win in 2:19.9.
Leah McDonald ran well in the 75m in 13.9sec and the 150m in 25.6sec, and then leaped 3.06m in the long jump.
Christopher Brown ran his first 1500m in 5:03.2 to take silver.
In the Salford 10k road race, Mike Mannings had a good run to finish in 33:37, followed by Dominic Kennerley in 39:30, Darren Mannings 42:42, Derek Atherton 44:29, Maggie Elliott 52:24, Natalie Mannings 53:41 and Helen Hadfield 58:08.
SUNDAY’S Oldham Half Marathon, organised by the mayor’s office, has been postponed to a later date.
But that has failed to deter Royton Road Runners members who use the race as preparation for the London Marathon later this month.
They have decided to recreate the event tomorrow, making the half-marathon course the venue for their weekend run.
The club is hoping for a large turn-out of members wearing club vests.
Meet at the pay and display car park opposite Oldham Sports Centre at 8am.
