ANGLING: STUART Holmes (Tight Lines) enjoyed a cracking weekend with two victories in Moorfields Farm open matches.

In the first, fished on the main lake and using pellet and pole, Stuart dominated the event with a massive 102lb 6oz of carp.

Next best, some way behind, was Pete Boyes with a level 70lb.

Holmes continued his winning ways on Moorfields Farm Fishery with a similar net to the previous event, weighing in 87lb of carp. Paul Cannon took second place with 36lb 8oz.

FRED Prudham (Gilders) was in action in the North and Midlands and finished runner-up on Oak Tree Leisure Fishery with pole, meat and corn netting him 38lb of carp.

Winner Rob Ogilvy weighed in 45lb 8oz of carp, with the biggest 6lb taken on pole-fished corn.

STEVE Hall can’t go wrong at the moment and his latest win came in the Bradshaw Fisheries match fished on pool three.

Steve caught 23lb 6oz of skimmers and roach using chopped worm, caster and maggot.

Paul Hodgkinson was second with 18lb 7oz, followed by Alan Hardy (18lb 4oz). Mike Risby took fourth with 17lb 14oz.

THERE is a new match to watch out for this season with the biggest-ever winner-takes-all final netting one lucky angler £100,000.

The match is the brainchild of Maver Tackle boss Phil Briscoe and will cost £50 per qualifier to enter.

The winner of each 120-peg qualifier will go through to the final which will be held on the main lake at Larford in Stourport, Worcestershire.

The runner-up from each qualifier will go through to a smaller final, fishing for £5,000.

There is a website being set up which will be ready for anglers to apply for tickets on June 1.

LEES and Hey Angling Association’s rod-only Whams Trophy match on Bradshaw number four pool was won by John German with three carp and some silvers which fell to meat and maggot fished on the tip, weighing 18lb 4oz.

Second best was Bob Steele with two carp, the biggest being 7lb 3oz, and a few silvers taken on a similar method to the winner for a total of 13lb 15oz.

Chris Mott was on the next peg, where he also slipped his landing net under two carp and a few skimmers and roach for 13lb 13oz.

The winning pair were John German and Chris Mott.
