AMATEUR FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE were unlucky to go down 3-2 in the title decider at unbeaten Shelley in the Huddersfield League fourth division.
A sluggish start saw Heyside concede twice in the first ten minutes but they responded well, hitting the woodwork twice and missing several other chances before Scott Rowbottom reduced the arrears.
Heyside started the second half strongly but suffered a blow when Shelley got their third goal against the run of play.
Nick Campbell’s goal reduced the deficit again but, despite their best efforts, Heyside could not force an equaliser.
The reserves lost 5-2 at New Mill reserves.
Trailing 3-1 at the break, Heyside pulled a goal back but then missed a penalty and were punished as New Mill scored twice in the last ten minutes. On target for Heyside were Mark Kingsley and Ryan Pugh.
OLDHAM Victoria secured a welcome 2-1 win at Manchester Rovers in their Lancashire & Cheshire League division two basement battle.
Trailing to a first-half goal, Vics hit the home side with two goals just after half-time. Paul Arrowsmith equalised after 47mins before the same player was brought down in the area four minutes later, Nathan Wrigley converting the spot-kick.
