Holden stars in Oldham success

OLDHAM’S darts team kept alive their hopes of winning the GMC Super 8s title with a 9-3 victory at St Helens.
Stuart Holden produced a man-of-the-match display to win his game 4-1, averaging 86.83 and clinching his legs in 16 darts and 17 three times.
Other winners for Oldham were Pete Day snr (4-0, 78.22), Gary Jackson (4-2, 77.68), Peter Connolly (4-0, 85.24), Mick Rawes (4-2, 66.00), Dave Rawstron (4-2, 83.89) and John Moreton (4-1, 80.56).
With two matches remaining, Oldham trail leaders Rochdale by five points after winning eight, drawing two and losing two of their fixtures so far.
Third-placed Bury, whom they face at the White Boar in Bury on Friday (8pm), are 20 points back in third, so the battle for the title will surely come down to Oldham’s final match at Rochdale in June.
THE semi-finals of the team knock-out in the Thwaites Brewery Crompton League take place on Thursday.
At darts, Commerical Inn take on Ray’s Wine Bar A while Junction Inn face Queen Anne. The crib line-up sees Cartshaft B face Crompton Cons B and Scoobies tackle Weaver’s Answer.
