AMATEUR RUGBY LEAGUE:
GREG WORRALL is to follow in his father’s footsteps and pull on a Great Britain jersey.
The 18-year-old Oldham St Anne’s centre has been selected for the BARLA Great Britain squad to tour South Africa next month.
The son of former Oldham and GB Test star Mick, Greg has represented Saints since he was six and gained his place in the squad as a result of his efforts representing Lancashire this season.
Tom Hurdus of Saddleworth Rangers is also included in the 24-strong playing party which is being managed by Dave Roberts, with Gary Schofield taking on the coaching duties.
Jetting out on May 27, the touring party is to be based in Vanderbijlpark, south of Johannesburg.
Great Britain play matches against South Africa Schools, South Africa Students under-20s, South Africa RL under-21s, South Africa Junior Development and South Africa Schools once again before setting off home on June 13.
A SPECIAL event is being held at the St Anne’s club on Higginshaw Road this Sunday to raise funds for Greg’s trip.
Starting at 2pm, the day includes live entertainment, an auction and a DJ and all are welcome.
