Hollinwood battle in vain

AMATEUR RUGBY:
HOLLINWOOD put 40 points on the board against Selby in their final Pennine League division four game of the season — but it wasn’t enough to clinch victory.
The visitors, who scored three tries in the opening 15 minutes, won 52-40 to claim title glory.
Man-of-the-match Darren Cooper broke Hollinwood’s duck with a try and aconversion, before Peter Davies crossed the line.
But Selby regrouped and had built up a 32-10 lead by the midway point of the match.
Hollinwood’s defence was breached again soon after the restart, but they refused to throw in the towel.
A Michael Chiverall try was converted by Cooper, who recorded his second touchdown of the game moments later.
Matty McCullough, saving his best performance of the season until last, went over — Cooper added the extras — before Alistair Williams and Ian Hunt got in on the act.
Hunt raced in from 30 yards, opening the way for Cooper to notch his sixth goal of the afternoon to level the scores.
But despite Hollinwood’s best efforts, Selby had the last say with two converted tries.
