Open-minded Brierley in holiday mood

ANGLING:
BILLY Brierley won the Bank Holiday open match fished on Alexandra Park Lake with a 20lb 15oz net made up of 48 chub and two roach which fell to bronze maggot fished at 12 and 14 metres.
That total beat Tony Simcock, whose chub-based 19lb 4oz catch also included a few roach taken on maggot and pellet.
Mick Jewitt (Tight Lines) took third with bronze maggot fished at 11 metres towards the bridge tempting over 40 chub and some roach.
Fourth was Paul Lord with chub and skimmers weighing in at 13lb 13oz.
Malc Taylor was fifth with 10lb 4oz, but he was cursing his luck after losing four bream at the net.
THE Medlock Bridge AC Monday night series has been moved to Alexandra Park Lake.
The first two matches will take place on Mondays, April 19 and 26, with the draw at 4.30pm and fishing from 5pm to 8.30pm.
Matches from May 3 onwards will be drawn at 5pm and fished until dusk. Entry fee is £12.50 all-in.
The draws will be held at the Kings Road gate entrance to the bridge.
PETE Cuniffe is a master at roach fishing and really showed his class with a superb performance in the Medlock Bridge AC open match fished on Alexandra Park Lake.
Cuniffe netted 30 roach, two over the one-pound mark, all falling for caster fished at 11 and 14 metres.
He added half a dozen small chub and two skimmers for a total of 20lb.
Derrick Bowers is without doubt one of the best anglers to come out of Oldham and he showed his experience, tempting a 17lb 8oz catch which included three decent tench, skimmers, chub and roach taken by ringing the changes between groundbait and pellet and loose-fed maggot at 13 metres.
Third-best Danny Haywood fished at ten metres with maggots over micro pellets netting him skimmers, chub and roach weighing 17lb.
Fourth-placed Mark Webb caught 35 chub with maggot the favoured bait.
MEDLOCK Bridge AC are again running their popular Saturday open matches on the park lake.
Draw time is 9am in the main car park, with the match fished from 10am to 3pm. Tickets are £15 all-in.
New Medlock Bridge AC memberships are now available and you can purchase them at most tackle shops in the area.
The memberships are also available from Charlie and Darren Webb, the bailiffs on Strinesdale and the park lake.
Prices: Family ticket (man, wife/partner and up to four children) £50; Seniors (16 years and over) £34; Concessions £17; Juniors £11. Day tickets are £4 for seniors and £3 concessions.
JIM Wild took first place in the Cranberry AC match at Fleets Dam.
His pinkie and maggot approach fished close in netted him 4lb 1oz of roach in a tough match.
Chris Bold was next with a 2lb carp and some silvers taken on the pole and maggot for a level 4lb.
Steve Wild was third with tip and pole-alternated pinkie and maggot for 2lb 8oz of roach and small skimmers.

Rochdale Canal – Tench showing on Boarshaw lengths. Pellet, corn caster for bream.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Solid. Banded pellet for plenty of ide.
Park Lake – Solid with roach and chub falling to caster and maggot fished at 11 to 14 metres.
