TONGE continued their fine start to the Manchester Premier League season with a home 10-4.5 (201-154) victory over Wigan outfit Garswood Hall.
Steve Squire (21-5) and Jimmy Derby (21-6) led the way for Tonge, whose other winners were Andy Cairns (21-16), Matt Gillies (21-14), Thomas Dobson (21-15), Darren Griffiths (21-16) and Gary Ellis (21-19).
Tonge’s next game is on Wednesday week, away to reigning champions Lower Hopton.
THIS year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Handicap is beginning to fill, so anyone wishing to take part should act quickly to avoid disappointment as the entry is restricted to 64.
Heats will be played at Nimble Nook and Crompton on Friday June 4 and Royton and Delph on June 11. Play on both nights starts at 6.30pm, with practice from 6pm.
The finals will be held, for the third successive year, at North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club on Saturday, July 10 (6pm start, 5.30pm practice).
Entry fee remains at £5. Players can enter by writing to Bob Nisbet, 22 Severn Rad, Hollinwood, Oldham OL8 3RQ, enclosing the fee, their name and full address, a daytime phone number, their club and team(s) and their choice of playing date (heats June 4 and 11, finals July 10).
Entrants cannot choose their favoured green and, wherever possible, will not be allowed to play on a green at which they are a member.
If a player is drawn at a green at which they are a member, they will have two chalks deducted from their handicap.
FAILSWORTH Bowling League’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday (8pm) at Stanley Road Conservative Club. Main item on the agenda is the draw for the Castle Cup.
THERE are still a few places left in the Moorside Classic, but would-be entrants are urged to contact organiser Geoff Woolley as soon as possible.
Qualifying places are available on Thursdays July 29 and August 5, and Fridays August 6 and 13 (6.30pm). The finals will be held on Sunday, August 22 (1.30pm).
Entrance fee of £15 (cheques payable to Moorside Cricket and Bowling Club), should be sent with choice of date and SAE, to: Geoff Woolley, 115 Turf Pit Lane, Moorside, Oldham, OL4 2ND.
