Perry’s classy display

BOXING: PERRY King displayed his burgeoning boxing skills in the annual Darnhill and Heywood ABC show.
The Chadderton teenager beat Curtis Young, of Newbury and Farnworth, in the bout of the night.
King’s workrate and quick footwork caught the eye, but he had to be on his guard, with his opponent releasing several dangerous hooks to the head and body.
The 14-year-old, cheered on by more than 50 supporters from Oldham, had done enough in the contest, though, to claim victory.
It was a comeback win for King, who lost to Eric Sutton (Irlam ABC) in the 44-46kg final of the North-West Schoolboys ABAs.
He was a promising footballer — he attended Athletic’s school of excellence from the age of six — but his career on the pitch was curtailed after breaking the same leg three times.
