Quartet is flying the flag for Oldham

GOLF: OLDHAM’S Scott Leggatt foursomes Stableford competition was won by Lynn Kershaw and Julia Wild with 35 points, just ahead of Joyce Beech and Marjorie Bray with 34.
They will represent Oldham in the next round of the competition along with Mary Buckley and Edythe Turner.
Buckley scored 34 points to win a Stableford competition, on the card from Jane Antrobus. Chris Peirson was third and Joyce Beech fourth.
Joyce had better luck in the club’s second EWGA medal, topping the list with her 83-15-68.
Runner-up was Buckley (83-12 -71), ahead of June Boyle (104-30-74).
CROMPTON and Royton lost 4-3 to North Manchester in their latest Shield match.
Winners for Crompton and Royton were Margaret Butterworth (1up), Val Hall (5 and 4) and Rita Bradley (3 and 2).
NADINE McNamara scored 37 points to win WERNETH’S two-ball Stableford.
Sylvia Haq beat Fiona Dooley on a card play-off for the first division sweep after both scored 31 points.
Lily Bevins’ tally of 33 points gave her the second division sweep, while the second sweep went too Sally Newton with 32 points.
EILEEN Simpson and Sheila Cooper teamed up to win a Canadian greensome at SADDLEWORTH.
The pair accrued 39 points to deny Jenny Knight and Pam Tomlinson (36pts).
