Let’s finish the job

RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH RANGERS are concentrating on a simple equation on Saturday: Win at Myton Warriors to celebrate gaining promotion to the National Conference League premier division.

Going into their last game of the season, Keith Brennan’s side are currently in third spot in division one.

Depending on results elsewhere, Rangers could remain in the promotion places even in the event of defeat.

But nobody is thinking in those terms at the Greenfield outfit right now.

“We have had two weeks away from the action and it has been frustrating,” said Brennan, who admitted that there is a lingering sense of injustice following the 12-7 midweek defeat against high-flying Thatto Heath two weeks ago — a controversial game which ended early due to bad light.

“It has been a long, hard season and the boys want to prove to everyone that we do deserve to go up.”

Saddleworth have a full squad to pick from, though there is a doubt over Tom Lever, who is currently suffering from concussion.

Myton, from Hull, are sixth in the division but cannot overtake Rangers in the promotion hunt.

But they gave champions-elect Thatto a big scare on home soil before going down 34-28, reinforcing the impression that Rangers will need to be at their best to pick up maximum points.
