Home comfort in opening matches

ALL four home sides made flying starts in the Oldham and District Golf League ‘A’ division with resounding wins for Ashton, Dukinfield, Denton and Stamford.

But it was a different story in the ‘B’ division, with two fine away wins for Stamford and Dukinfield.

Comeback of the week came from Saddleworth ‘B’ captain John Walsh and partner Dave Newman, who were three down with four to play but took the lot to win.

The ‘C’ division of seven new teams saw Blackley ‘B’ win 6-2 at Crompton and Royton ‘B’, while the ‘A’ teams of North Manchester and Crompton and Royton will take heart from the narrowest of away losses.

‘A’ DIVISION

Denton 7, Saddleworth 1: Denton – L Merson and J King won, M Sayers and D Collinson won, M Merson and M Grainger won, C Murphy and M Murphy halved. Saddleworth – N Marner and G Chadderton halved.
