County set seek success at Hyde

BOWLS: GREATER Manchester begin their County Championship campaign on Sunday (2pm) with a Roses clash against Yorkshire.

Norths BC, Hyde, is the home venue, while the away leg will be held at Spen Victoria BC, Cleckheaton.

TONGE continued their excellent start to the Manchester Premier League season with a 12-4 (198-170) victory at reigning champions Lower Hopton.



Highlight was Thomas Dobson’s 21-20 victory over the game’s top player, Graeme Wilson.

Other Tonge winners were Gary Ellis (21-15), Nicky Brooks (21-13), Darren Griffiths (21-14), Simon Coupe (21-16) and Stuart Mort (21-8).




NORDEN BC’S Brennan mixed pairs gets under way on Sunday (5.30pm), but there are still places available on Sundays May 9 and 23.



Entries are also being accepted for Norden’s Thwaites men’s pairs (June 20 and 27, July 4, 11, 18 and 25, and August 1 and 8) and AC Ventilation women’s pairs (June 20 and 27, and July 25). Play in both competitions starts at 5.30pm, with the finals on Sunday, August 15.
