Amateur football: ROYTON Town missed out on the chance to claim a late-season scalp in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League.

In their last home game of the campaign, they hosted third-place Walshaw Sports but went down to a 2-0 defeat.

An entertaining clash saw Hollinwood draw 3-3 with Stockport Georgians, while leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs smashed five past East Manchester without reply.

Dukinfield Town enjoyed a magnificent seven.

They beat Elton Vale 7-4 in a fantastic match that was never going to be a defensive battle.

With two fixtures remaining, Town can still finish as high as third.

All eyes are on the top of the league as Avro will leapfrog Wythenshawe Amateurs and win the title if they win their next two matches - see John Gilder’s Match of the Day.

It’s in their own hands despite a 2-2 home draw with Springhead.

Fourth-from-bottom Atherton Town earned a credible 1-1 draw at home to Manchester Gregorians, who have designs on a top five finish.

At the other end of the table, basement boys Rochdale Sacred Heart suffered their 19th defeat of the season when they were beaten 3-0 by visitors Prestwich Heys.

Tight at the top

CHADDERTONIANS won their final two games of the Lancashire Amateur League season to keep the pressure on Little Lever at the top of the premier division.

They beat Radcliffe Town 5-0, with Steve Barrow getting a hat-trick. Mark Kearns and Rick Massey got the others.

Chadds finished the campaign with a 2-1 win over Rossendale Amateurs. Barrow equalised 15 minutes from time, before Neil Sissons grabbed the winner in the 85th minute.

Little Lever now need just two points from their last two games to pip Chadds to the title.

Oldham Hulmeians completed their division two season with a 4-1 defeat to Rochdale St Clements reserves.

Niall Yates scored the consolation for the Tate Street side, who have finished in ninth place.

Chadds ‘A’ reached the final of the division four ‘A’ team cup with a fine 3-1 win at Rossendale ‘A’.

Pat Kearns, Nick Maxwell and Shem Arianne scored their goals.

Hulmeians reserves lost 6-0 to Old Boltonians 'B' in division five.

Chadds ‘B’ team finished the division six campaign with two defeats - 4-3 at home to Ashtonians reserves and 6-0 away at Old Blackburnians ‘B’.

Hulmeians 'A' lost their division seven promotion decider with Rossendale Amateurs 'C' 2-1. Mick Jones scored but the visitors levelled with a long-range strike before clinching victory two minutes from time.

Finishing with a flourish

UPPERMILL are looking to finish their Huddersfield and District League first division season with a bang.

Currently fifth, they can build on a fantastic 5-1 away win at Meltham Athletic when they host Cumberworth tomorrow.

They finish the season against Hepworth United next weekend.

Runners-up spot is within the grasp of Diggle as they prepare for tomorrow's home match with Hepworth.

The second team, managed by Adi Bottom, have already won the Richardson Cup and take on Britannia reserves in the Huddersfield FA Junior Cup final at Marsden tonight.

In division two, Heyside reserves lost 4-0 at West End reserves. They trailed 2-0 at the break.

Heyside had two goals ruled out in the second period and hit the bar before a Mark Fillingham own goal and another late strike finished them off.
