Saddleworth CRICKET:
YOUTH and experience combined perfectly to help Greenfield record back-to-back wins in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
The youth came in the guise of Adam Hayes, who registered scores of 69 and 58 with the bat and claimed five for 64 with the ball against Hollinwood and Droylsden. Not to be outdone, Peter Gill , who won the division one bowling prize in 2008, picked up five for 42 and five for 54.
Bamford Fieldhouse, the reigning champions, showed no mercy to their opponents.
They required only 96 for victory against Austerlands. Paddy McKeown’s side reached their target with three wickets down, and sent a depleted Hollinwood side crashing to 40 all out. Bamford lost one wicket in reply.
Moorside captain Lloyd Kingston (53) and professional JP Lee (53) lifted the Turf Pit Lane outfit over the line against Stayley. They won by one wicket after Malvi had struck 129 for the visitors, while Lee Warburton took five for 22 in the defeat of Glodwick, for whom paid man Imran Aslam got seven for 78.
Uppermill defeated neighbours Saddleworth in a low-scoring encounter, ex-Uppermill skipper Matt Taylor claimed six for 41 to nail victory after his side were skittled out for 135, but the lads from Leafields had to play second fiddle to Shaw, who won by 77 runs thanks to Rick Harrington’s six from 23.
Shaw got the better of Friarmere 24 hours earlier, with half-centuries from pro Ryan Senior (67 not out), Gareth Harrop (63 not out) and overseas amateur Andre Milan (62).
Heyside clinched a 60-run defeat of Droylsden - captain Nick Campbell hit 81 in helping his side to 267 - while Adam Lavin and Steve Howard made 92 and 76 respectively for Saddleworth in their 72-run victory over Austerlands on Sunday.
Stayley, with Malvi claiming four for 50, bounced back from Saturday’s defeat by overcoming Friarmere.
