Saddleworth and District CRICKET: IMRAN Aslam produced another stand-out performance for Glodwick in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League — but the Pakistani’s brilliant effort was in vain.
Hot on the heels of his 34-ball century, the professional took nine for 46 against Friarmere, for whom overseas amateur Zafar Iqbal made 71.
But Glodwick, requiring 151, were restricted to 133 for nine in reply. Australian paid man Josh Butler claimed four for 35.
Fortunes were reversed 24 hours later as Friarmere suffered a 48-run defeat at Moorside — Lee Warburton got five for 37 for the hosts — while Glodwick overcame Uppermill by 47 runs.
Mark Lees was another bowler whose big effort was to no avail. He took eight for 63 as Mill succumbed to 93 all out after being 20 for seven at one stage. Imran Asghar claimed five of the wickets to fall.
Shaw are riding high at the top of the table after back-to-back wins.
Francis Sutherland, with 85, and Rick Harrington (five for 29) played key roles in the 126-run defeat victory over Austerlands, while Harrington followed up with another five-wicket haul (for 33 runs) in the 10-wicket romp at home to Hollinwood.
Heyside’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at reigning champions Bamford Fieldhouse, but Nick Campbell’s troops gave a good account of themselves.
Dismissed for 218 — Roelof Hugo made 64 and Ben Holt 56 — they went down by four wickets. Jack Kelliher, with 74 not out, and Simon Marshall (63) led the way for Bamford.
Ex-Lancashire man Marshall hit a superb 141 a day earlier in the 185-run defeat of Droylsden, who were set a huge target of 343 for victory.
Heyside, thanks to an unbeaten 113 from Steve Firth, were too strong for Greenfield on Saturday, while Steve Taylor, with figures of six for 20, and captain Peter Skuse (63) were the stars of the show for Saddleworth in the seven-wicket win over Hollinwood.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Droylsden over the weekend as they recorded their first win in division one since 2008 after beating Saddleworth by seven wickets yesterday. Saif Ur Rehman was the hero with 103.
Stayley sit third in the standings after wins over Uppermill and Austerlands. Pro Usman Malvi took eight of the nine wickets to fall in the defeat of Austerlands.
