Angling: OLDHAM postman Keith Bannister sealed a superb victory in the Cellar Clough AC 24-hour match on the club water.

Although relatively new to carp fishing, he showed more experienced rivals how to do it by delivering a brilliant win.

Using a white chocolate and KG1 boilie on a straight lead safety rig, Bannister caught 11 carp — the biggest weighed in at 11lb 4oz for a 60lb 13oz total — to easily beat Gary Fisher, who had three carp for 15lb 2oz.

THE Cranberry AC’s match on Partridge Fisheries Marsh lake was a steady affair, with only one angler breaking the double-figure barrier.

Jim Wild recorded 11lb 2oz of small carp on pole, pellet and meat in the margins.

Derek Hudson, the runner-up, had a cracking net of silvers for 7lb 10oz of roach in the two to four ounce bracket. He used maggot at eight and nine metres.

Steve Orr, in third, had a level 7lb of chublets with the pole and maggot fished at 12 and 13 metres.

The latest Cranberry AC match, this time on the Pine lake, saw a real turn around in fortunes, with some brilliant weights.

John Keeley had a magnificent 46lb of carp and chub on pellet at 13 metres.

Wild had to settle for second-best this time. He had a level 29lb catch of carp and chub attracted by meat and corn across and down the middle.

Third-placed Rod Illing boasted chub and carp for 28lb on the pole and paste.

ORGANISER Lee Humphries won the first of the Chadderton Mill AC Thursday evening matches on the club water.

The GTI Matchman rod had ide every put-in on maggot up in the water at 13 metres for a 42lb finish.

Paul Hill (Gilders), in second, had 35lb 6oz of ide also on maggot up in the water but closer in at nine metres.

Mick Tighe, also of Gilders, took third place with 15lb of ide on maggot up in the water, while a switch to paste down the edge saw him net four carp to finish with 34lb 2oz.

DAVE Machin was back into the groove for the Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam, where he used meat and pellet at 13 metres to net four decent skimmers and some roach for 11lb 8oz.

Ian Cox opted for maggot and caster at 13 metres for 11lb 4oz of roach and skimmers.

Martin Taylor (TRI-CAST Highfield), using pellet and maggot, was third with 5lb of roach in a 9lb 14oz bag.

BOB Harrison destroyed the opposition in Monday’s Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park lake.
He tipped the scales at 31lb 4oz, which included a dozen tench, three bream, a carp and lots of chub on the pole at nine metres and corn and pellet.

Ian Cox was second with 14lb 1oz of mostly chub taken on the waggler and maggot, while Billy Brierley had 12lb 10oz of chub on maggot at 14 metres.

Saturday’s open match on the Park lake took place in cold and windy conditions.

It went to Paul Cuniffe, who employed pellet at 13 metres for 10lb 14oz of roach and skimmers.

Peter Cuniffe used hemp and caster at 10 metres to net a second-best 9lb 13oz, while Steve Clegg (Saints) struggled for a level 6lb.

Clegg turned the tables in the latest Medlock Bridge AC match on the same venue, taking top honours with a fine 12lb 13oz of chub.

Paul Lord (Gilders) had a busy first two hours for a second-best 12lb 1oz.
