FOOTBALL: GOLDEN Buck claimed their second trophy in the space of a week after defeating Charlestown 3-0 in the Ashton Sunday League Vic Marsden Trophy at Curzon Ashton.

Buck, who dominated throughout, took the lead after 10 minutes through Santoro.

Rocky Siddall doubled the advantage just before the break.

Charlestown emerged more determined in the second half, although their chances were few and far between, Chris Lomas going closest.

There was to be no fairytale comeback when Brooks scored with 20 minutes remaining.

Lomas scored all four goals as Charlestown in a 4-4 premier division clash with Kippax.

The draw confirmed Charlestown as runners-up.

Stylish end to season

DIGGLE completed their Huddersfield and District division one campaign with a resounding 5-1 win at Moldgreen.

The victory gave Diggle the runners-up spot.

While Diggle ran out comfortable winners in the end, their opponents had clearly not read the script as they took the lead after 15 minutes with a flicked header from a free-kick.

The visitors took time to find their feet, but eventually got back on level terms when Dave Walters powered home a header via Jeff Whittaker's corner.

The second half proved all Diggle as the local side pummelled the Moldgreen goal.

They made it 2-1 early in the second period when Whittaker and Gareth Chew combined to allow the latter to expertly slide a shot past the advancing Moldgreen goalkeeper.

Chew added a third on the hour mark following considerable Diggle pressure.

It was fitting that top scorer Whittaker twice found the net, taking his tally to 30 in his debut season at the club.

Uppermill clinched fifth place with a an 8-1 victory at home to Hepworth United.

Britannia Sports had designs on fifth but this victory sealed it for home side Uppermill, who ran United ragged.

In reserves division one, Diggle and Uppermill shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

RELEGATED Harlequin will meet Weavers Arms in the AW Trippier cup final after beating Fothergill and Whittles 6-5 on penalties at Wardle Park.

Fothergill took a deserved lead early on but David Bates equalised after an hour.

The match went to penalties and underdogs Quins secured a 6-5 victory.

The final takes place tomorrow at Rochdale Town (kick off 4pm).

Thirds at the double

CHADDERTONIANS’ third team, led by player/manager Chris Wales, secured the league and cup double at the weekend by beating Mancunians 'A' 4-2 in the Lancashire Amateur League Cup final.

The local lads went behind after five minutes but fought back well to take a half time lead courtesy of goals from Wales and Jordan Scholes.

After the interval Mancunians put Chaddertonians under pressure and 15 minutes into the second period they equalised with a fierce volley.

But Chaddertonians slowly regained control and further goals from Mark Hendstock and Scholes finished the job.
