CRICKET: REJUVENATED Droylsden defeated high-flying Shaw in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

And, with Bamford Fieldhouse sweeping aside Greenfield at Ladhill Lane, Paddy McKeown’s side are the new pacesetters.

Unbeaten Shaw were hoping to seal a fifth win out of six at Oakfield, but they did not reckon on a revitalised Droylsden.

Michael Schofield’s side had beaten Saddleworth six days earlier — it was their first win in the league since 2008 — and they showed it was no flash in the pan by recording a second victory in the space of a week.

Taking first knock, Shaw were bowled out for 175, with veteran professional David Lees claiming five for 27.

Captain Schofield then assumed command. He finished unbeaten on 57 in a superb five-wicket success.

Simon Wright scored his first century for reigning champions Bamford, who went top with an emphatic 120-run victory at Greenfield.

The former Crompton skipper, who was dropped on 10, smashed eight sixes and eight fours in an exactly 100 and, with Simon Marshall (63) and Peter Roberts (49) also making valuable contributions, the Hollin Lane outfit amassed 277 for seven.

Despite 66 from teenager Chris Gill, Greenfield were never in the hunt and were eventually dismissed for 157.

Basement boys Hollinwood got off the mark for the season with a welcome 13-run defeat of Stayley.

Steve Bowers scored 53 for the hosts, who were bowled out for 180.

Stayley, who started the day third in the table, could only manage 167 when it was their turn to bat. Lou Adair top scored with 57.

Austerlands also broke their duck at the sixth time of asking, thanks to a comfortable seven-wicket defeat of Glodwick at Nursery Fields.

The visitors were limited to 162 for nine — Mark Whitehead made 62 — and the home side had few alarms in achieving their target.

Heyside paid man Roelof Hugo compiled a fine 93 and Stuart Moore hit 55 to help their team to 243 for nine against Saddleworth at Little Hey Street.

Craig Lawrence (57) chipped in with a half-century in reply, but captain Nick Campbell’s five for 67 restricted Saddleworth to 198 all out.

Skipper Lloyd Kingston and Lee Warburton produced solid displays for Moorside in a 48-run win at Uppermill.

Kingston scored 55 out of a total of 177 for nine, while Warburton continued his fine start to the season with figures of four for 47.
