Room and a view

CRICKET: AUSTERLANDS Cricket Club can boast refurbished changing rooms and a new viewing area.

The Nursery Field side, who play in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, carried out the work after they were handed a cheque in the region of £30,000 from Veolia Environmental Trust. The club also raised a portion of the money for the improvements.

The scheme to improve the changing facilities got under way in November, but was held up for several weeks in the New Year as snow and ice blocked roads leading to the ground. However, it was ready in time for the start of the new season.

The viewing area, situated on the side of the hill next to the scorebox, will be turfed eventually with benches placed on it for spectators to sit.

VEOLIA deal in waste management and operate in High Moor quarry, close to the Austerlands ground.

They awarded the money through the Landfill Communities Fund. It allows landfill operators to retain a portion of the tax paid on the waste they send to landfill and distribute it to community and environmental schemes in the area.
