Angling: TEENAGER Aiden Bordiak reigned supreme in the second of the Chadderton Mill AC Thursday evening matches on the club water.
Drawn on peg two, Bordiak recorded a superb 55lb.
He started with the long pole and maggot up in the water, which attracted ide every put-in.
Bordiak switched to paste down the edge late on, catching six carp to defeat John Pearson, who had nine carp in a net of 45lb using paste on the deck at six metres.
Fred Prudham, in third place, opted for maggot and caster at four metres for 41lb 10oz of carp and ide, while Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) was fourth with his 41lb 8oz made up of 20lb of ide and two carp of about 10lb apiece.
CARP featured in three of the top four weights in the Todmorden AS members match on the Croft.
The winner, Steve Hall, bagged a carp and some bits on pole-fished meat to record 16lb 10oz.
Runner-up Dave White was next-best, also with carp and bits, for 15lb 12oz, while Dave Balmforth’s brilliant all-roach net weighed 13lb 7oz for third place. He used bronze maggot on the long pole.
Meanwhile, there was a good turnout for the Todmorden AS taster day on the canal at Littleborough, with more than 50 juniors trying their hand at the sport despite the cold conditions.
THE Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake did not quite produce the expected big weights, but is was still a competitive affair.
Paul Hughes was the winner, with his 9lb 2oz catch made up of roach, chub, bream, tench, perch and a small carp taken on worm, caster and maggot over hempseed.
Darren Taylor was drawn on two, where he landed 8lb 1oz of skimmers, chub and tench.
He was followed by Billy Brierley, whose chances of winning were hindered by a slow start.
However, using maggot towards the bridge from peg 24, he finished strongly for a 7lb 14oz total.
There was a marked improvement in the latest Medlock match on the Park Lake as the top three all posted double-figure weights.
Bob Harrison claimed victory. He employed pellet hookbait over swimstim groundbait at 11 metres for a steady procession of skimmers, tench and chub for 16lb 4oz.
Brierley was second this time. He started with the pole and maggot before switching to the waggler for a late run of fish which tipped the scales at 16lb 2oz.
Steve Clegg (Saints) swapped between the long pole and waggler with maggot on the hook for 14lb 8oz of roach and chub.
Machin is Dam good
DAVE Machin’s red-hot run on Tanners Dam continued in the Diggle AC Tuesday evening match.
Employing meat and pellet at 13 metres, the tactics worked a treat as he included a 16lb 4oz mirror carp, plus plenty of skimmers and a few smaller carp.
Opting for an identical approach to the winner, runner-up Mike Henshaw attracted three carp in the first 30 minutes, which made up the most of his 15lb 3oz net.
Darren Thexton had some nice roach on the 13-metre pole, maggot and pellet as well as a 6lb carp on paste for a third-best 13lb 8oz.
