CRICKET: WITHOUT a win in the Tanner Cup since they joined the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League in 2007, Glodwick will need to create a huge shock to break their duck in the competition tomorrow.

Nigel Stock’s side play host to holders Bamford Fieldhouse, who are setting their sights on more silverware glory.

And Glodwick go into the first-round tie without regular opener Graham Broadhead, who faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a back injury against Austerlands last weekend.

Stock said: “We’ll give it our best shot, that’s all we can do.

“Graham’s injury is a blow. Atif Khan will come in, but he hasn’t been well recently.

“But we have still got several match winners in the side, including Imran Aslam, our professional. He is capable of scoring runs very quickly and can also go through sides with his bowling.”

The stand-out tie is at Turf Pit Lane, where Moorside entertain Shaw.

Moorside, under the captaincy of overseas amateur Lloyd Kingston, are one of only two unbeaten teams in the division while, until last Saturday, Shaw were riding high at the top of the table.

Defeat against Droyslden knocked Steve Whiston’s side off their perch, and they will look to bounce back.

Last season’s beaten finalists, Uppermill, are at home to Austerlands while Hollinwood, buoyed by their first win of the season against Stayley, welcome Friarmere to Lime Lane.

The other tie sees third-placed Heyside take on Greenfield at Little Hey Street.
