MARK Peters recorded his maiden century as Austerlands swept aside Friarmere in a high-scoring Saddleworth and District Cricket League encounter yesterday.

The 23-year-old opener rattled up 117, Adam Young was unbeaten on 96 and professional Sidney De Silva made 50 to lift the Nursery Field outfit to a daunting 300 for three.

De Silva proved equally adept with the ball, claiming five for 88 as Friarmere were bowled out for 222.

The scorers were also kept busy at Heyside, where visitors Stayley finished on 254 for four thanks to Usman Malvi’s 81 and Steve Bird’s 53 not out.

But Heyside had their own runmaker in paid man Roelof Hugo. The South African struck 97 to steer his team to a three-wicket triumph.

Heyside are nine points adrift of second-placed Shaw, who bounced back from their Tanner Cup exit 24 hours earlier with a 39-run win at Greenfield.

Shaw’s overseas amateur Andre Milan hit an unbeaten 103, while John Wood took five for 50 for the hosts.

Simon Marshall scored 92 for leaders Bamford Fieldhouse as they posted a straightforward nine-wicket victory at home to Saddleworth, for whom captain Peter Skuse made 75.
