ANGLING: CHADDERTON Mill AC’s Thursday evening match on the club water produced another record-breaking haul for the venue.
Organiser Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) knows the site like the back of his hand and, if he gets a good draw, he’s virtually assured of a place in the money.
However, drawn on peg 16, Humphries didn’t fancy his chances, but 20lb of ide in the first hour increased his optimism.
He then switched from maggot up in the water to paste down the side and enticed carp to 10lb.
Humphries lost just two fish all night in a massive 73lb 2oz catch.
Conrad Taylor (Gilders) was second with 15lb of ide and plenty of carp in the 4lb to 5lb bracket.
He used paste fished down the side of the lilies for a 40lb 8oz net.
John Jones was third-best with a level 40lb made up of carp to 5lb which fell to meat up in the water at 14 metres.
The previous week’s winner, Aiden Bordiak (Tight Lines) was fourth with 31lb 8oz of carp and ide taken on maggot and paste.
THE Cranberry AC match at Fleets Dam turned out to a family affair.
Jim Wild, the winner, had a 4lb carp and plenty of skimmers on 11 and 13 metres of pole and caster, maggot and pellet on the hook.
And his effort was too good for son, Steve. Using identical tactics, he took 8lb 8oz of skimmers and roach.
John Kelley rang the changes between pellet, meat, maggot, caster and worm down the side, at 14 metres and on the tip for a level 8lb of silvers. Steve Orr and Tony Lees tied for fourth with 7lb 8oz apiece.
MICK Henshaw claimed top honours in the Diggle AC Tuesday evening match on Tanners Dam, where pellet, meat and paste at 13 metres accounted for a level 20lb catch, which included three carp and a few skimmers.
Dave Machin, the runner-up, used identical tactics to tempt five small carp and two skimmers for 14lb 12oz.
Chris Butterworth, in third place, had 3lb 10oz of silvers on pellet.
OLDHAM Central AC enjoyed an excellent day at Cudmore Fisheries’ Brewster Lake, which had plenty of silvers showing.
The winner was guest Mick Jewitt (Tight Lines). He opted for pellet right across and up in the water for 41lb 10oz of carp to 1lb 8oz.
Some way adrift in second place was Malc Taylor, who used almost identical tactics for a mixed bag of tench, skimmers, roach and f1’s totalling 24lb 11oz.
That was a fish in front of Keith Butterworth, with his 23lb 5oz catch of tench, f1’s and bream on pellet close in.
DARREN Jones (Tight Lines) had a good start to the Cairo AC summer league on Denshaw Vale.
He landed the opening match with 4lb 10oz of small tench and silvers. Ryan Murgatroyd was second with a similar net (4lb 8oz), followed by John Jones’ 3lb 7oz haul.
Paul Lord claimed round two with 7lb 14oz of bream on long pole and pellet.
Malc Taylor was second with 5lb 13oz of small tench and some skimmers, with Matty Gilder’s bag of silver fish (4lb 5oz) in third.
CROFT was in good form for the Todmorden AS open match.
The winner, Chris Oliver, boasted five carp on the pole and meat for a 47lb 7oz total.
Tom Barlow was second with two carp and some skimmers on pole and worm to weigh 37lb.
Lee Cavanagh, in third, had 26lb 2oz of carp on the tip and pellet.
