CRICKET: CHAMPIONS Scholes visit Delph in the Drakes Huddersfield League premiership tomorrow.

And in what promises to be the most testing 48 hours of Delph’s season so far, they head to leaders Hoylandswaine on Monday.

Captain Grant Jones believes his players will have to be at the top of their game to match two stern opponents.

He said: “No-one expected Scholes to lose their first few matches.

“In that sense they’re similar to ourselves, because we underachieved to begin with, but they are on a winning run and we’re playing well.

“Hoylandswaine are flying so it will be a tough test, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Delph continued an impressive run of form in the league with a five-wicket win at Marsden.

The home side finished on 249 for seven, with Bilal Khiljee claiming three for 76 and Aaron Lilley two for 26.

In reply, Delph reached their target for the loss of two wickets, Khiljee scoring 91 not out and Faisal Butt contributing an undefeated 51.

And Delph progressed to the third round of the Sykes Cup with a comfortable victory over Clayton West.

West were all out for 168, Khiljee doing most of the damage with five for 42.

Delph reached their goal with six wickets in hand, Bruce Cruse scoring 52.

MICKLEHURST go into the Bank Holiday weekend looking to recover from a disastrous run of results.

They are at home to Linthwaite in the first round of the Oddfellows League Cup tomorrow, and 48 hours later have a trip to Lepton Highlanders in the Frank Platt Championship.

Micklehurst, rooted to the bottom of the league with just one point to their name, were well beaten at Kexborough in their latest fixture.
