CROMPTON’S misery in the Lake Garage CLL continued yesterday with a crushing defeat at title challengers Milnrow.

A toothless bowling attack leaked runs at an alarming rate as the home side piled up a massive 335 for seven off their 50 overs.

Opener and captain Paul Winrow made an excellent 113, while Max Power produced fireworks in his knock of 74.

Facing such a daunting total, Crompton capitulated and were skittled for a mere 87, Vikas Tokas taking five for 35.

Werneth have not had much to shout about in recent weeks, either, and their gloom deepened with a seven-wicket home defeat against Middleton.

Only Matt Taylor (30) offered any real resistance in Werneth’s 108 all out as Danny Core (four for 11) and Raza Hussein (three for 39) cashed in on some poor batting.

Middleton scored the runs they needed for the loss of three wickets, stand-in professional Jonathan Carters hitting an unbeaten 41 and Steve Davey 35.

Elsewhere, Heywood won the top clash of the day against Norden at Crimble, the home side’s Danny Pawson hitting 102 and visiting professional Michael Price an unbeaten 114.

And the prolific Clinton Perren made an undefeated 121 as Littleborough successfully chased down 238 at Walsden, for whom Perren’s professional counterpart Duminda Perera struck 119 not out.

Only one game was played on a rain-hit Saturday, Walsden winning at Radcliffe.
