AN emphatic derby-day win at Heyside means Shaw are riding high in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
With Bamford Fieldhouse enjoying a weekend off, the close rivals had their sights fixed on top spot.
And it was Steve Whiston’s side who took over the lead role with probably their best performance of the season so far.
Professional Ryan Senior and South African overseas amateur Andre Milan were the architects of yesterday’s success at Little Hey Street.
Milan claimed four for 38 as Heyside were bowled out for 189 — Liam Garnett made 49 — and he finished unbeaten on 68. With Senior at his side —the paid man was 79 not out — the pair carried Shaw across the winning line after they lost two early wickets.
Bamford have slipped to second in the table, but Stayley are up to third after two days of mixed fortunes.
In one of only two fixtures to defy Saturday’s wet weather, they defeated Droylsden by seven wickets in a game reduced to 22 overs per side. Pro Usman Malvi hit 86 and Paul Littlewood pocketed five for the 48 for Stayley.
But Droylsden exacted their revenge in resounding style 24 hours later, after amassing 303 for seven. David Lees (68), captain Michael Schofield (62) and Neil Pearson (50) were among the runs.
Stayley were dismissed for 162 in reply, with quick bowler Wasim Quasim taking five for 62.
Moorside suffered a second straight league defeat as they went down by four wickets at Austerlands, for whom James Greenwood weighed in with four for 13. Moorside’s Lee Warburton picked up five for 58 to take his wickets tally for the season to 34.
Mohammed Saddique had a topsy-turvy weekend for Glodwick against Hollinwood.
The Warren Lane outfit’s new overseas amateur, the Pakistani had a second-ball duck on his debut in Saturday’s 26-run defeat, but struck a vital 62 in the reverse match on Sunday.
Saddique’s knock — he came in at number seven — lifted Glodwick to 146.
Hollinwood were 103 for five in reply and seemingly set for victory, but they slumped to 130 all out. Pro Imran Aslam took four for 60 from his 18 overs, while young Imran Khan claimed three for 21 off six overs.
Uppermill’s seven-wicket win over Friarmere at Leafields was a real team effort.
James Baron and Mark Lees bagged four wickets apiece, while Andrew McVeigh and Dave Wood were unbeaten on 82 and 45 respectively, as Alex Griffiths’ men clinched a second league victory of the campaign.
Zafar Iqbal hit 66 for Friarmere’s total of 164.

Khiljee plays starring role
BILAL Khiljee proved a more than able substitute for Greenfield in Whit Friday’s contest at Saddleworth.
With Kamran Hussain laid up in Pakistan with a back injury, the Ladhill Lane outfit turned to Delph’s overseas player as a stand-in pro.
And Khiljee did not let down Greenfield.
He claimed five for 51 and hit 50 not out in an eight-wicket victory at Well-i-Hole.
