Higginshaw coach role for Deakin

RUGBY LEAGUE:
HIGGINSHAW have appointed Paul Deakin as their new open age head coach.
Deakin steps into the role vacated by the outgoing Aidy Brown, who has departed due to family commitments after a successful season in which the club finished fourth in North-West Counties League division four — their highest position for many years — and reached the final of the Standard Cup.
Deakin was previously involved in the youth set-up at Higginshaw, helping develop many players who have gone on to play scholarship rugby with Super League clubs. He will work alongside David Sweeney, who continues as assistant coach.
“We all wish Aidy all the best for the future and would like to thank him for his efforts and commitment for the last two seasons,” a club statement read.
Pre-season training starts on Tuesday, June 15, at Oldham Edge (7pm start) with old and new players welcome.
A GOLDEN try by Carl Fields — who picked up both the coaches’ and players’ player of the year at the club’s awards night — gave Higginshaw a plate final victory over Halifax Irish in the recent Brighouse Sevens tournament.
Overall player of the year was prop forward Michael Cadd, who also topped the try scoring charts with 16.
