RARING TO GO: Ronnie Heffron.
OLDHAM’S rising welterweight star Ronnie ‘The Razor’ Heffron returns to the ring for a four-round contest on the undercard of the Michael Jennings versus John O’Donnell Three Lions show.
Jennings and O’Donnell go head to head for the vacant British Welterweight title at the Preston Guild Hall on July 3.
Heffron won’t know until next week who he faces.
He’s being helped by 2007 amateur world champion Frankie Gavin and Tony Bellew, both of whom train with him at Anthony Farnell’s Manchester set up.
“Being in the gym with the likes of Tony and Frankie is amazing,” said Heffron.
“I was in awe of them the first time I walked through the door.
“Even though I'd won an ABA title myself, I was there being asked to work with Britain's only amateur world champion, and a guy who'd won three ABA titles at heavyweight.
Heffron (19) especially looks up to Gavin.
He added: “Seeing how he trains every day has made me get my head down and work as hard as I possibly can.
“It’s inspiring, but daunting knowing how much I’ve got to give to get to the top.
“I’ve always wanted to be a world champion though and I’m going to do the hard yards to make sure that happens.”
The card features Bellew’s Commonwealth light-heavyweight title defence, and former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion Matthew Hall.
