WORKFORCE will be carrying the hopes of local charities at Epsom tomorrow.
Lewisbet, who recently opened a new shop in Huddersfield Road, Oldham, provided the Chronicle with a free £25 Derby bet, with any winnings going to a charity of our choice.
Chronicle racing correspondent Keith McHugh, who is pictured striking the wager with Lewisbet’s Huddersfield Road betting shop manager Shirley Senior, said: “I have selected Jan Vermeer to win the Derby in tonight’s paper.
“But he is the hot favourite and I am looking to secure a sizeable amount for the Oldham Evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap charity fund, hence my choice of Workforce at longer odds
“With the 2010 Chronicle Bowls starting tonight and the Derby taking place tomorrow, it seemed a perfect opportunity to marry the two events together.
“Lewisbet kindly gave me the best odds available (11-2), so Oldham will be the winner to the tune of £137.50 if Workforce can do the business.”
