ROYTON and Oldham made winning starts on a rain-hit opening night in the CLL's Twenty20 competition.
Friday's heavy showers had an impact on all but one of the eight games played, and Werneth can feel particularly aggrieved after starting so well at home to Oldham.
Alan Durose hit a quickfire 52 as Werneth raced to a commanding 83 for one, at which point the rain intervened.
No further play was possible and the subsequent bowl-out was won 3-0 by Oldham.
Royton's game at Ashton was an 11-over thrash which saw the hosts make 71 for three.
Royton had a ball to spare as they reached their target for the loss of six wickets.
There was no play at Crompton, who lost a bowl-out 2-1 to Walsden.
