OLDHAM’S darts town team had to settle for runners-up spot in the GMC Super Eights following their 6-4 defeat in the final game of the season against champions Rochdale.
A powerful Rochdale team clinched the title by 10 points, with Oldham a further 30 points ahead of third-placed Bury.
In a superb match which featured 229 tons and 15 180s, Rochdale survived a fine fightback by Oldham.
The visitors to Rochdale’s Weavers Arms trailed 3-0, but Pete Day snr (4-3, 71.55 per three darts) and Stuart Holden (4-2, 90.49) reduced the deficit to a single game.
Rochdale won the next game before Lee Williams (4-3, 87.93) and Dave Rawstron (4-3, 88.94) levelled the scores.
Although the title was out of their reach at this stage, Oldham still hoped to end the season with victory over their greatest rivals.
But it was not be as Rochdale produced two excellent displays to record a 6-4 verdict.
