Terrific Howard at the double

ATHLETICS:
OLDHAM and Royton athlete Adam Howard is celebrating a sparkling double.
The teenager has landed the under-15s Greater Manchester 1,500m and the North of England 1,500m titles.
Howard continued his domination of the Greater Manchester Champion-ships at Longwood Park, Trafford, by clinching a straight win running in 4 minutes 19.84 seconds.
At Leigh for the North of England Championships, he had another great run to cross the line in 4:23.47.
In the same race, Jack Crabtree was fourth in 4:28.72 and Matthew Shaughnessy came home ninth in 4:39.00.
Also in the Greater Manchester Championships, Christopher Brown claimed gold in the under-13s 1,500m in 4:50.97 and also bronze in the long jump with a leap of 4.17m and the 100m with a best time of 13.71s.
Harry Cooper, in his first major competition for Harriers, recorded 15.11 seconds in the under-13s 100m and reached 3.56m in the long jump.
Jack Crabtree had a good run to take silver in the under-15s 1,500m in 4:25.0, while Charlotte Bowker performed well to win bronze in the 75m hurdles in 13.32secs.
In the under-17s events, Matt Treacy won gold in the discus with a great throw of 32.08m, Beth Halliday took gold in the shot put (5.61m) and she registered a PB in the discus to pick up silver with 13.54m.
HAMMER
Jake Riley was fourth in the 100m in 12.13secs.
Michael Ashworth won gold in the under-20s hammer with 38.72m.
Sharon Harper had a day to remember in the senior women’s events, winning silvers in the hammer (21.98m), discus (21.02m) and shot put (7.66m).
Mel Lee hurled the hammer to win bronze in 21.56m.
