Senior so slick for Shaw

SHAW and Bamford Fieldhouse are level at the top of the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Leaders before the start of play, Shaw recorded a five-wicket success at Saddleworth, thanks to an unbeaten 101 from professional Ryan Senior and 71 from overseas amateur Andre Milan.

The result was especially hard to swallow for Ben Willis, who posted a superb 130 in the home side’s total of 260 for eight.

Bamford Fieldhouse, the reigning champions, were too good for Stayley at Hollin Lane, coasting home by eight wickets.

The visitors’ Honey Garg was again among the runs with a fine 63, following up his 170 not out against Greenfield seven days earlier.

But the in-form opener had little support as Stayley crashed to 121 all out. Martin Smith, with six for 53, and paid man Stephen Parry (four for 23) did the damage.

Heyside are up to third place after defeating Moorside in a high-scoring encounter at Little Hey Street.

Danny Anchor, with 61, and Kashif Khan’s 61 not out lifted Moorside to 235 for eight. The evergreen Tony Heaton weighed in with six for 101.

But Heyside achieved victory with five wickets to spare. Captain Nick Campbell guided his side across the finishing line with an unbeaten 50 after Ben Holt had made 54.

Basement boys Friarmere are within touching distance of second-from-bottom Saddleworth after a morale-boosting three-wicket defeat of Droylsden. Overseas amateur Zafar Iqbal hit exactly 50.

Glodwick are three points adrift of Droylsden in sixth after they piled up the runs at Greenfield.

Spearheaded by pro Imran Aslam’s excellent 93, the Warren Lane outfit amassed 285 for nine.

In reply, Greenfield managed three batting points before they were dismissed for 157.

In the other fixture, Uppermill were left with a simple task after their bowlers sent Hollinwood spiralling to 98 all out.

The lads from Leafields clinched victory for the loss of three wickets.

UPPERMILL are through to round four of the LCB Cup after a second consecutive bowl-out victory.

Alex Griffiths’ side beat Greenmount (Bolton League) 1-0 in sudden death. Michael Brookes was the successful bowler after all 11 players from each team had missed the stumps.

Uppermill were 88 for seven from 21 overs — the tie had been reduced to 26 overs per side after rain interruptions — when the umpires finally abandoned play.
