Perfect pitch

GOLF: IGNORANCE was bliss for Brookdale captain Derek Miller and the club’s lady vice-captain Sue Boothby in their Archie Preston match at Sale.
Neither player knew that the outcome was in the balance at 3-3 when they went down the first play-off hole after fighting back from two down with three holes to play.
Perhaps it was just as well the pressure did not come into play as Sue produced a stunning 50-yard pitch to within an inch to clinch victory for herself and Derek - and the Brookdale team.
Other winning combinations for Brookdale were Brad Keeling and Vicky Akin (3 and 2), Jeff Clarke and Angela Hunter (3 and 2) and Mick Boothby and Maureen Parker (1up).
OLDHAM Golf Club are on the look-out for teams of three to take part in a charity day in aid of Kingfisher Community Special School.
The event, which is being staged on July 2, includes 18 holes of golf, a two-course dinner and prizes.
Cost per team is £105 and further details are available from Joyce Beech on (0161) 620 6678.
