Wilde lands his first major

GOLF: JONATHAN Wilde claimed his first major win at WERNETH when he took the Vice-Captain’s prize by two shots.

The 20-year-old was one off the pace after a first round 71-8-63, but as conditions got tougher in the afternoon — standard scratch rose from 66 to 69 — he came in with a 74-8-66 for a 129 total.

Andy Hey claimed runner-up spot on 131 with an impressive 76-13-63 in the afternoon to go with a morning round of 81-13-68.

Paul Rowbotham won the best gross prize with rounds of 72 and 65 (137) to return to a scratch handicap.

Other prize winners were:

First division

First round - James Buckley (69-7-62); Second round - Pete Griffin (73-7-66).

Second Division

First round - John Mellors (80-18-62); Second round - Ken Baker (84-17-67).

Three-man team event
